Peter C. Paras has devoted his entire professional life to the exclusive practice of family law. He has been guided by three principles throughout his career: each client’s needs are unique, communication between lawyer and client is essential, and there is no substitute for preparation.
Peter’s reputation as a skilled trial lawyer, his preparation, and his trial experience are often the reasons he can obtain favorable settlements for his clients without going to trial.
He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Family Law Section, and served on its Executive Committee for many years. He is also a member of the Monmouth Bar Association and has served on its Family Law Committee for more than thirty years. Peter is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, perhaps the most prestigious of all family lawyer organizations, and a member of the Matrimonial Lawyers Alliance, a selective organization of family lawyers, with a membership limited to fifty. His other accolades include his selection as a “Super Lawyer” by the annual peer poll conducted by New Jersey Monthly Magazine, every year since its inception and his inclusion in “Best Lawyers in America” every year since 2015.*
Since 2001, Peter has been listed in the “Bar Registry of Preeminent Lawyers” by Martindale – Hubbell, the oldest and one of the most respected peer review publications and he holds its highest AV peer rating, which signifies the “Highest Rating in Legal Ability and Ethical Standards.”
He has lectured for the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education, The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and The American Trial Lawyers Association, has served as a Master in the Ocean-Monmouth Family Law Inn of Court, an organization for the exchange of ideas about legal issues and the mentoring and education of young family lawyers, and has written articles for numerous publications on a variety of topics, including cross-examination, custody, equitable distribution, and support.
