The Honorable Joseph P. Quinn, J.S.C., retired New Jersey Superior Court Judge, served for 23 years in the court’s Civil, Chancery, and Family Divisions, where he was a strong proponent of mediation and alternate dispute resolution. He now leads the Firm’s mediation practice.
Judge Quinn served as Presiding Judge of the Chancery Division from his August 2020 appointment until his retirement in October 2023. He managed and tried all cases filed in the General Equity and Probate Divisions, including complex business disputes, partnership dissolutions, restrictive covenants, land disputes, foreclosures, will contests, disputed estate issues, and conservator and guardianship matters.
Judge Quinn served for 16 years in the Civil Division, including five years as Civil Presiding Judge. He presided over thousands of civil cases involving personal injuries, automobile accidents, medical negligence, insurance issues, business disputes, contract claims, land use issues, and employment disputes.
While on the bench, Judge Quinn served as a member of the Conference of Civil Presiding Judges and the Conference of General Equity and Probate Judges. He was appointed to multiple Supreme Court committees, including ten years as a member of the Supreme Court Civil Practice Committee. Judge Quinn has lectured frequently at the annual Judicial College, the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, and the Monmouth County Bar Association.
Judge Quinn began his career as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Marshall Selikoff. He developed an extensive civil practice and has tried cases to verdict for both plaintiff and defendant. He represented numerous public entities, the County of Monmouth, and several Monmouth County Municipalities. Judge Quinn also served for 15 years as an elected Mayor and Councilmember in Lake Como.
